33rd ACBI Annual Conference - 2010

The 33rd Annual Conference of the Association of Clinical Biochemists in Ireland took place on 15th and 16th October in the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2. The conference was pronounced a resounding success by all involved with over 100 delegates present on Friday and 80 on Saturday.
The four sessions which covered: Cancer Screening, Laboratory Efficiency, Bone Disease and Obesity all proved to be popular with delegates and led to many discussions later, both at the questions and answers sessions, and afterwards at coffee breaks or lunch.
There were 28 posters in total submitted for consideration and Dr Vivion Crowley was presented with the Geraldine Roberts Medal for his submission on Development of mutation detection assays for FDB and Type III Hyperlipidaemia using PCR and direct nucleotide sequencing.
The conference dinner took place on the Friday night, where 100 delegates, partners and guests enjoyed a relaxed evening of excellent food and wine, and music by Black Velvet. The conference ended on Saturday with a closing reception in the Stil Bar. We must not forget the generosity and loyalty of our many sponsors, without whom the conference simply could not take place.
